ஜெய ஜெய சங்கரா [Jaya Jaya Shankara]

May be after 20 years , I took this book ...as usual I was not disappointed by JK ..

Jaya jaya Sankara I don't remember that this reading is second or third. But still feeling great. And I cherish the memories of reading Kaluthil vilundha malai and Hara Hara Sankara.

ஆன்மீகம் vs அரசியல் சங்கராபரணி நதியில் இருந்தே இக்கதை தொடங்கி, அதே நதியில் முடிவு பெறாத கதை ஒவ்வொரு கதை மாந்தர்களின் முலம் ஒவ்வொரு மனிதன் தனிபட்ட கொள்கைகள் கொண்டுள்ளான். அந்தந்த காலகட்டத்தில் மனிதன் தனது கருத்தை மாற்றி கொள்கிறான். இக்கதையில் வரும் கொள்கையும் அந்த சூழ்நிலைக்கு நியாயமே! இலக்கிய நயத்தோடு இயற்றிய நல்ல காப்பியம்! ஜெயகாந்தன் 👏

Compared to Hara Hara Sankara JK sounds much better in this. In Hara Hara Sankara, JK almost gave a judgement by himself for Sankararaman murder case when the actual case was undertrial. I still couldn't believe JK was so inclined to caste discrimination later in his life. (Check some of the quotes I made visible). He also explains that this understanding of Shankaracharya is just his, not trying to portrait him differently, though that is what exactly he did.

இந்த உலகத்தைச் சற்று கூர்ந்து கவனித்தால் தெரிய வரும். பக்தன் என்பவன் கண்மூடித்தனமாக மதச் சடங்குகளை நம்புபவன் என அறியப்படுகிறான். சதா சர்வ காலம் காரணமின்றி தெய்வ நிந்தனையும் பக்தர்களைக் கிண்டலும் செய்பவன் நாத்திகன் என அறியப் படுகிறான். உழைப்பதற்கு கேள்விகள் கேட்பவன் கம்யூனிஸ்ட் என அறியப் படுகிறான். இப்படி பல சித்தாந்தங்கள் - ஒன்றை ஏற்பவன் அடுத்ததை முற்றிலுமாக நிராகிக்கிறான். இது துரதிர்ஷ்டமான விஷயம் - ஆனால் உலகம் இப்படித் தான் இயங்கிக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. காதல், மோதல், துப்பறிதல் என எத்தனையோ விஷயங்கள் இருக்க இந்த கதை வித்தியாசமான அதே சமயத்தில் சுவையானதொரு களத்தில் பயணிக்கிறது. நாத்திகன், காந்தியவாதி, ஆன்மீகவாதி, சந்நியாசி, தேச பக்தன், கம்யூனிஸ்ட், அரசாங்க ஊழியன் என பல சித்தாந்தங்களை பின்பற்றுபவர்களை ஒரே கோணத்தில் ஒரு பொதுவான நன்மைக்காக உடன்பட வைக்கிறது. ஜெயகாந்தனைத் தவிர யாராலும் இப்படி பல்வேறு நம்பிக்கைகளை அதன் சாதக அம்சங்களுடன் சுவையாக அலச முடியாது. எமர்ஜென்சி காலத்தில் நடை பெரும் இக்கதை யாரும் எதிர் பாராத கோணத்தில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது. அனைத்து விஷயங்களையும் நடு நிலையோடு பார்ப்பவர்களால் மட்டுமே இக்கதையை புரிந்து கொள்ளவும் பாராட்டவும் முடியும். இக்கதை தமிழ் உரை நடையில் ஒரு முத்திரை.

In the first half of the book, the book set up a very interesting plot. A gandhian kid and a brahmin kid living in different environment being friends during childhood days, moves on to become a gandhian leader and orthodox mutt lead. The thought of the plot and the set up was mind blowing. With the plots of gandhian friend saving the live, the boy already has got a life which he feels dedicated to the friend. This boy on becoming a head of mutt takes another life as per the belives. The change of thoughts with head of mutt being more open to the changes, while the gandhian not being open. The conversation between them on being stonch believer and follower vs having acceptance on people with gentle push was thought provoking. The mind games and mind changes with growth and environment is excellently crafted by Thi Ja sir. Till the first part end it looks as a setup for master piece. The second half of the book looses the plot on jaya jaya Shankara, moves towards pre and post independence. Bringing in emergency and how it is contrast to gandian ways. How both independence fight and emergency fight affected people life, how emergency made government spy on their citizen. But the true reason for me to take this book, is to read more on the extension of the first part. Hence the book was a big let down for me in second half. Never the less Thi Ja still inspires on the plot talking on how true gandhians take their life and handle their life. The conversation of the lawyer friend and gandhian people are interesting take on the same thing by two different belivers. The conversation of communist friend with mutt pontiff was also something which went without fire. The first half of the book is must read, second half sounded more like alaiosai or other kalki books on freedom struggle and middle class people contribution on the same. Highly recommended for the first half. Second half leave to your wish.
