JK captured emotions well in this short story. The imagery painted is very vivid, and is elevated further by the sound effects added in the reading (I'd listened to it as an audiobook). Looking forward to reading the book that the author was spurred to write after this, the award-winning Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal.

After I heard that, as a response to the controversy after publishing this story that Jeyakanthan wrote SNSM, I invested in reading this short story. In retrospection, I truly appreciate all 'criticizers', because if not for them, a story like SNSM-a true gem, might not have been written. In its short description, this story contains all the message it needs to convey.

It was a short novella written by great writer Jayakanthan.. I listened this through an audio book, narration with music as per the incidents happening in the story. Story of a mother and daughter, how the mother treats her daughter when she gets molested by a stranger on a rainy night and what advice she gives her daughter is the story all about.. The plot is not fresh, but I like the description of the events and characters throughout the story.. In Tamil it is called as uvamaigal.. The writing made me feel as if like watching the movie, Kudos to the narrator (Bombay Kannan) who enhanced the story to another level through his voice modulations.. I am kind of falling in love with audio books now..

தன் வெகுளியான, கெட்டுக்ககிடக்கும் வெளியுலகம் அறியாத, பிற மனிதர்களை புரியாத, தந்தையற்ற மகளுக்கு (குழந்தை) நிகழ்ந்த கொடுமையை தன்னை சுற்றியுள்ள சமூகத்திற்கு தெரியாமல், தன் குடும்பம் மேல் கறை படியாமல், அவளின் வாழ்கை சீரழியாமல், கடவுளின் மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து, நிகழ்ந்த சம்பவத்தை மறக்க செய்யும் தாய். இக்கதை எழுதப்பட்டு நாற்பது வருடங்களுக்கு மேல் ஆகிறது. உலகம் அறியாத பெண்கள் இன்னும் உண்டு. இது போல் பல சம்பவங்கள் இன்றும் நிகழ்ந்து கொண்டுதான் இருக்கின்றன. பெண் உரிமை பேசினால் மட்டும் போதாது. ஆண் பெண் அனைவருக்கும் பிற மனங்களை தம் மனம் போல் உணர்ந்து பார்க்க வேண்டும்.

@Sreehari, thank you for suggesting to read this before Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal. Purity is in the heart is what this short story is all about. Jayakandhan's descriptions are so beautifully detailed that you can literally hear the sounds of the rain! Since this short story spurred SNSM, I feel I will understand the depth of this short story more after reading SNSM.

- Book 54- அக்கினிப் பிரவேசம் Author-ஜெயகாந்தன் 1970 இல் ஆனந்த விகடனில் வெளி வந்த இக்கதை வாசகர்களிடையே பெரும் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. இப்போது படித்தாலும் அதே தாக்கம் ஏற்படும். இந்த சிறு கதையால் தான் ஜெயகாந்தன் "சில நேரங்களில் சில மனிதர்கள்" என்னும் காலத்தை வென்று நிற்கும் நாவலை எழுத தூண்டியது. ஒரு மாலை நேர பொழுதில், கனமழை நிற்காமல் கொட்ட, ஒரு கல்லூரி பெண்ணுக்கு தன் நான்கு சக்கர வாகனத்தில் ஏறுமாறும் அவளை அவள் இல்லத்தில் விடுவதாகவும் சொல்லி அழைக்கிறான். இவளுக்கும் வேறு வழி தெரியாததால் அவனோடு வண்டியில் ஏறுகிறாள். இடையில் வண்டி நிற்கிறது. அவள் அவனால் கற்பழிக்க படுகிறாள். பின்னர் அவளை அவள் வீட்டு‌ தெருவில் இறக்கி விடுகிறான். அழுதக்கொண்டே தன் தாயிடம் ஓடி நடந்த அத்தனையும் கூறுகிறாள் அந்த பெண்.
