Very nice book which I ever read. Must be read by the readers

இந்த கதையில் ராஜா, ராணி, மந்திரி, இளவரசர், இளவரசி போன்ற கதாபாத்திரங்கள் கிடையாது, போர்கள் பெரிய சண்டைகள் எதுவும் கிடையாது, சாதாரண கதாபாத்திரங்கள் தான், அருமையான காதல் கதை, மனதை ஆனந்தப்படுத்தும் கதை, மெய்மறந்து படிக்கும் கதை தான் இந்த மணிபல்லவம், பொன்னியின் செல்வனுக்கு பிறகு நான் மிகவும் ரசித்த கதை மணிபல்லவம் தான். ஜெ. அரவிந்த்

My first book of na.pa. The story is nice. The author take us to different places. But some things is missing. After finishing Historical novel should hold us for few days .But after reading this book. I have not any feelings....

The first two books were really interesting but then it later started to drag a little bit. Enjoyed the poetry and the and the prose about tamil and the debates were interesting. Didn't like that Ilankumaran ended up with Suramanjari instead of Mullai. Overall, a nice long read

A fabulous book by na pa. Felt a real sense of bliss throughout the reading of book. The story telling is amazing and could not leave the book. After reading the book again I read the prelude by the author to recap . After this book I am seeing na pa along with thi ja and Kalki in the same Dias . Thank you na pa sir for this creation.🙏🙏🙏🙏

யாரை அதிகமாக வெறுக்க நேர்கிறதோ... அவர்கள் மேல்கூட அன்பு செலுத்த துணிய வேண்டும்... நன்றிச்சுமை எவ்வளவு கனமானது...! கொள் எனக் கொடுத்தல் உயர்ந்தது... இந்த கொள்ள மாட்டேன் என மறுத்தல் அதைவிட உயர்ந்தது... எதிரியே ஆயினும் அவன் மீதும் இரக்கம் கொள்ள வைத்துவிடும் கல்வி... பாத்திரங்கள் குறைவு ; பழகிய விதம் நிறைவு கதையின் நிறைவு ; மனதிற்கு குறைவு.

As a fan of Na Pa writing, I must say this book disappoints me. As with his writing, one should expect a deep rooted moral characters and an everyday twists to weave the story. He does that without any trouble. But the story narration is way too elaborate, unnecessary and merely makes the book too long and boring. With such chapters after chapter of detailed and unnecessary elaborations, it is hard to continue reading. I am relieved to complete it just for the sake of it. First half not too bad and typical of Na Pa. Second half merely a grind.

The genre 'Tamil historical fiction' evokes visions of royal characters, fast moving action, wars and intrigue, thanks to the evergreen works of great masters like Kalki, Sandilyan, Vikraman, Kovi Manisekaran, et al. Manipallavam, true to the author's reputation, is quite different from the others; it doesn't deal with the royalty, there is little action, and there are no wars. This is a social novel set in the times of the Cholas. Though there is some intrigue and action, all of that is overwhelmed by the profusion of philosophical discourse dealing with the purpose and meaning of wealth, valour, love and life itself. The ending also is not a happy one as it involves heartbreak for several characters which underlines the author's focus on the message he wishes to convey rather than the story itself. The most striking feature of this novel is the author's expressive description of the places, people and their emotions that transport the reader to a different world altogether. Manipallavam is a novel that is a bit low on story and a lot deeper in meaning than most other works of Tamil historical fiction. I enjoyed the rich prose and the unique rhetorics a lot, though the lead characters started annoying me at some point...
