Excellent book.. It chronicles the travel of a succesfull tambrahm family for five generations right from their native village to a small town like Mayavaram to Mylapore / Madras to Bombay to Gulf to USA.. Very nostalgic..

Book 7 for the year- Delightful read by Balakumaran. It traces how a family moves across generations from a remote village near Mayavaram to Mayavaram town to Chennai to Mumbai to the Gulf.. all of this is told in the backdrop of World war 1, 2 and the Indian independence movement. It shows how the professions, society and the outlook of the family towards life has changed over so many years. But what has remained constant is them staying true to their roots and the core family values which has held them together and they’ve been largely successful. The title is so because the first generation described in the book started selling Appam, Vadai n Thayirsadam in parcels to the passengers in trains that passed through Mayavaram. Every year like a ritual, the family does this for a day to make sure they don’t forget where they came from 😃
