நம் சமயத்துக்கேற்ப, நம் சௌகரியத்தின்படி, அந்தச் சிரிப்பில் அர்த்தத்தைப் படித்துக் கொண்டு, உத்தேசித்த காரியத்துக்குத் தெய்வத்தின் அனுமதி கிடைத்து விட்டதாக எண்ணிக் கொண்டு, காரியத்தில் இறங்குகிறோம். காரியம், எதிர்பார்த்தபடி அனுகூலமாக முடிந்தால், தெய்வம் சிரிக்கிறது என்கிறோம். மாறாகத் திரும்பி விட்டால், கல் சிரிக்கிறது என்கிறோம்.

ஆனால், சிரிப்பது தெய்வமுமில்லை கல்லுமில்லை. எண்ணம்தான் சிரித்துக் கொண்டேயிருக்கிறது. Show more

புத்தகம் : கல் சிரிக்கிறது ஆசிரியர் : லா. ச. ராமாமிர்தம் பக்கங்கள் : 120 பதிப்பகம் : Audible வாசித்தவர் : தீபிகா அருண் கேட்கும் நேரம் : 2 மணி 31 நிமிடம் லா. ச. ரா வின் இரண்டாம் புத்தகம். அவர் புத்தகங்களின் ஆங்கிலக் கலப்பு ஒருவித எதார்த்தமான பேச்சு நடையாகவே எனக்கு தோன்றுகிறது. இந்த புத்தகத்தில் கதாபாத்திரத்திற்கு ஏற்ப கொஞ்சம் ஹிந்தி கலப்பும். அவர் எழுதிய காலகட்டத்தின் வாழ்க்கை முறையையும் அவர் எழுத்துக்களில் காண முடிகிறது. கல் சிரிக்கிறது. கல்லை கடவுளாக பார்க்க வைப்பது நம்பிக்கை, அதே கடவுளை கல்லாக பார்க்க வைப்பது நாத்திகம் மட்டுமல்ல, அவநம்பிக்கையும் கூட. மணி என்ற பூசகர் கமலாம்பிகையை அர்ச்சனை (இரண்டு அர்த்தங்களும் பொருந்தும்) செய்வதில் தொடங்குகிறது புத்தகம். பின் அவர் சகோதரரான தர்மராஜன் கோவிலில் ஒரு நாள் அர்ச்சனை முறை கேட்டு வருகிறார். அவர் வந்தது முதல் எல்லாம் மாறுகிறது. அதை தர்மராஜனும் பல சூழல்களில் பல சக மனிதர்கள் மூலம் கேட்டு, கடவுள் அருள் தனக்கு பரிபூரணமாக இருக்கிறது,தான் செய்யும் அனைத்தும் சரியாகவே இருக்கும் என்கிற நம்பிக்கையை பெறுகிறார். அதே நம்பிக்கையோடு முன்பு உடன் வேலை பார்த்த சக ஊழியரான கோமதிக்கு உதவ முடிவு செய்கிறார். திருடனுக்கு தேள் கட்டியது போல் தற்செயலாக காரியங்கள் அனைத்தும் தலைகீழாக மாறுகிறது. கடவுளை கல் என்று அவர் நினைக்க வைக்கிறது. எல்லாம் நாம் பார்க்கும் விதத்தில் என்று புத்தகம் நிறைவு பெறுகிறது .

Evocative descriptions, nuanced observations and some liltingly beautiful metaphors are the saving grace of this novella. But the poor plot and hurried pacing without right buildup makes this novel a dud. This my first attempt at reading LaSaRa’s works. I love his language, but this novel was a bad place to start. More like a 2.5 stars.

Phew! What powerful writing! Our actions are driven by our beliefs. This simple thought is the premise of the story which is executed with great craftsmanship with words. Dharmarajan comes back to his town after years to realise the Goddess Kamalambigai's smile upon him. He avails his right to do pooja to the goddess once a week, much to the chagrin of the existing pujari Mani. He finds many instances that make him suspect his own Godliness - like the house owner (Nadar) who prostrates himself to him and offers him food or the Abhishegam that he does drawing the most number of people to the temple (Including his long lost daughter). A collection of good omens and circumstances makes him feel confident that the Goddess has blessed him and he can do no wrong. He encounters Gomathi by chance, his mentee, with whom he shares a dinner - which was scarily near vulgar, especially as he calls her like-his-daughter. To help her out, he joins the service of Sethji as a cook and saves his life. And thereafter the stories converge to an almost unpredictable end. Was a bit scandalised when the book starts with Mani (the existing Pujari) foul mouthing the Goddess. Or when the interaction between Dharmarajan and Gomathi, a married woman with kid, is borderline flirtatious. The dialogues are different with different people - like with the Nadar, it is Chennai Tamil mixed or with the Sethji, it is doused with Sowcarpet hindi. This kind of non-conforming writing sets apart La.Sa.Ra from any other author I have read (which is very few). Scathingly bold books with incisive writing - La.Sa.Ra is not everyone's cup of tea, more like a tequila shot..
