While reading the book, I thought of the movie , "Dial M for Murder" which has been mentioned in specific point in book itself. Sujatha never fails to give credits. Good time pass thriller novel which ends with typical Sujatha's touch.

Signature Sujatha expressions. Life intricacies has been well captured although the characters lack the needed depth. Time and again, Sujatha tries to bring up the importance of courage. How essential is it to man up against wrongdoings, irrespective of the relationship - foe/fiend/friend or even family for that matter. Inability to confront people's wrong - is this too underrated in today's world? Should this not be as floating as a leaf on still water? It should be easily visible, reachable and also get wet just enough to reveal the moisture and not drown in the water - for it is this moisture, that shows the courage and compassion in a brave and righteous person. Standing witness to something cheap - could this potentially override one's conscience? Shouldn't we all be careful about this then? The takeaway is the timing. Strike the rod while it is hot. Don't let suspect eat you up. Talk. Ask. Listen. Think. and Act.

I am a great fan of Sujatha's novels, short stories and novellas. This one is a short read that does not disappoint, but falls somewhat short. Balakrishnan is a timid middle class executive who is married to Saradha, a good looking, vivacious and outgoing woman. Manjunath, a neighbor gets friendly with Saradha and Balakrishnan notices them spending a lot of time together. Manjunath is a brash young man with the philosophy "Thapithal Thapillai" (it isn't a crime if you get away). On the day of their wedding anniversary, Balakrishnan walks into his house with a gift of a gold ring for his wife, and sees his wife in a compromising position with Manjunath. Enraged, Balakrishna plans to kill Saradha trying to make it look like the work of a "Soap Killer" who murders homemakers and leaves some soap powder at the scene of the crime. And as one would think that this goes along predictable lines, Sujatha comes up with his famous twists and turns. It was fun reading the story in Tamil again (I read this way back in the late 1980's I think).
