Sandilyan is the king of classic historical fiction. I don't have a luck to meet him, but I'm blessed to read his words.
It was very interesting with unexpected twists and turns. On the whole I enjoyed reading this book.
Fitting finale with all loose ends closed. After the slow 2nd book, pace picked up in this book and was engaging till the end.
Sandilyan is extremely talented in weaving his stories with intricate details and interesting characters around real important historical events.
This is a historical novel that revolves around Kanhoji Angre and his time in India around early 18th century but follows fictional Idhayachandran who is tasked with finding a missing young prince and ends up meddling in far bigger matters that concerns nations and can alter the history of India
Many similarities between...Many similarities between கடல் புறா & ஜல தீபம் like both are the names of their respective ships. Their purposes are different, one for கடாரம் another for Maharashtra, both heroes are almost pirates, both have several affairs with women, happy endings. The last 4-5 chapters of ஜல தீபம் could've been much shorter without a need to drag unnecessarily, nevertheless very much enjoyed the novel
Twist and turns, Love, Affection, Respect as always in sandilyan books. Manju & Idhayachandran character is superb. Idhayachandran was very good man in keeping his promise. At the end the story is superb and I'm satisfied with the time I've spend for this book.
This 3rd part isn’t a drag like 2nd part. Interesting plot stirs up anticipation even though the same old story of the beginning and the reason of hero’s presence and fate keeps repeating as thoughts in most chapters. Not a mere fictional dialogues in the actual history, it reminds us of the dedication and the conscience of every character given their circumstances towards their nation. Out of the three parts of the story, I cherish this the most.
சிங்காரவேலன் திரைப்படத்தில் ஒரு மயிரைக் கொடு என்றொரு வசனம் வரும். அதைப்போலவே ஒரு சில வரலாற்று நிகழ்வுகளைப் பற்றி சாண்டில்யனிடம் கூறினால் போதும் போலிருக்கிறது. மகாராஷ்டிரத்தின் சில வரலாற்று நிகழ்வுகளை வைத்துக்கொண்டு ஐந்து முக்கிய கற்பனைப் பாத்திரங்களை உருவாக்கி சிறிதும் சுவாரஸ்யம் குறையாமல் காதல் உணர்வுகளும் காம உணர்வுகளும் வறண்டுவிடாமல் நல்ல வரலாற்றுக் கதையை கூறியிருக்கிறார். இதை ஒரு வரலாற்றுக் கதை என்பதைவிட இதயசந்திரன் என்ற ஒரு சாதாரண மனிதன் சிறந்த மாலுமியாக, படைத்தலைவனாக வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க பாத்திரமாக உருவாகிறான் என்பதை கூறும் நாவல் எனலாம். ஜலதீபம் மஞ்சுவினால் என் மனதில் அணையாத தீபமாக இருக்கும்

Slower than last part... Being a historical novel I was expecting lots of action but there wasnt much in this... this part is 75% romance ... But still intriguing enough to keep you on your toes....Hoping the last part finishes with a bang!!!!

இதயசந்திரன் உபதளபதியாய் ஒரு போரை வழிநடத்துவதை மட்டுமே ஆசிரியர் இந்த பாகத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்...
இதயசந்திரனின் காதல் மற்றும் பிரிவு இவ்விரண்டுக்கு மட்டுமே முக்கியத்துவம் தந்துள்ளார்..

Too much romance stuffs this 2nd part.
Story evidences and corelating the imagination with historical timeline is genius. But I felt this second part was more of a drag than the actual story plot of this entire part and felt the romance part was too much with elaboration which could have been avoided in simple words.
I love this ஜல தீபம் Jala Deepam (Jala Deepam, #2) even better than the ஜல தீபம் Jala Deepam (Jala Deepam, #1). An intriguing, mesmerizing, unpredictable pirate historical fiction.
I never expect I will complete this book in four days, Such an unresistant plot. Sandilyan knows how to twist a breeze to tornado.
Great fictional writing scripts from the author.
Not as interesting as Part 1, but still very adventurous where Idhaya Chandran meets Catherine & finally tries to reconcile with Manju

Well paced epic cant wait to read the next part. Felt the romantic scenes were stretched a bit too much at the end which slowed the pace of the book a but. But nevertheless a very good good intriguing enough to keep you guessing.
A historical events happened in Maharashtra after Sivaji's era. A lot of true historical events and people were bound within the story line. The period where British were about to dominate the land also happening. Pretty interesting read to know a story around such events and places to know, which appear completely different today, around Bombay and Pune.

நம்ம தலைமுறை அறியாத சரித்திர நாயகன்.குறிப்பாக தமிழ் மக்கள் அறியாத தலை சிறந்த வீரன்.சாண்டில்யன் , கனோஜியின் சரித்திரத்தை படித்த பிறகு .கனோஜி பற்றி தமிழில் எழுத வேண்டும் என்ற ஆவல் பெரிதாய் இருந்தது.அவருடைய 10 வருட முயற்சியில் உருவானது தான் இந்த ஜல தீபம்.
நான் மும்பையில் 3-4 வருடம் இருந்தது எனக்கு படிக்கும் போது மேலும் சுவாரசியத்தை தந்தது.நமக்கு(தமிழர்களுக்கு) ஏற்றார் போல் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பத்ற்காகவோ என்னவோ இந்த கதையின் நாயகனை [இதயசந்திரன் - கற்பனை கதாபாத்திரம்] தமிழனாக வைத்திருந்தார்.இந்த கதையின் மிக முக்கியமான கதாபாத்திரங்கள் [ கனோஜி தவிர] யாவும் கற்பனையே.ஆனால் சரித்திர நிகழ்வுகளுடன் அழகாக சேர்த்திருப்பார்.
நான் சுற்றிய பல சுற்றுலா தளங்கள் இதில் இடம் பெற்றிருக்கும்.முக்கியமாக , ஜச்ஞீரா [Janjira fort ],இதன் சிறப்பு கடல்கரையிலிருந்து சற்று உள்ளிருக்கும்.கரையிலிருந்து பார்த்தால் இதன் நுழைவுவாயிலை காண முடியாது.
[படிக்கும் போது , ரத்னகிரிக்கு செல்லும் வாய்பை நான் ஒரு முறை தவறுவிட்டது தான் எனக்கு வருத்தம் தருகிறது]
தானே,கல்யான் .. மும்பை சுற்றியுள்ள இடங்கள் [நம்ப தாம்பரம் மாதிரி].நான் அடிக்கடி அந்த இடங்களுக்கு செல்வதுண்டு. அந்த இடங்கள் இந்த கதையில் வரும்போது ஒரு பெருமிதம் வந்துதான் போகிறது.
நான் படித்த சரித்திர கதைகளில் யாராவது ஒரு துறவி இருப்பார் , முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரமாக.இங்கும் அப்படி பிரும்மேந்திர சுவாமிகள் இருக்கிறார்.
3 நாயகிகள் , வர்ணனைக்கு பஞ்சமில்லை.சாண்டில்யன் பாணி தனி பாணி தான் [கிட்டதட்ட வைரமுத்து மாதிரி - இது என்னுடைய கருத்து தவறாக இருப்பின் மன்னிக்கவும்] .மூவரும் நாயகனுடன் காதலில் மயங்குவது கொஞ்சம் அதிகமோ என்று தோனியது.
படிக்கும் போது , சுவாரசியமாக வரலாற்று நிகழ்வுகள் நம் கண்முன்னே கண்டிப்பாக வந்து போகும்.

As usual, சாண்டில்யன் Sir at best!! However this story also reminds me about கருணாகர பல்லவன் & கடல் புறா where he gets trained by a pirate அகூதா, although the theme is similar here there's added thriller that unlike அகூதா being friend here D' Castro is not in friendly terms with இதய சந்திரன்
The story was good. Ithayachandran character is potrayed well.
I admire the choice of words of the author. As I started navigating to chapters I noticed the suspense that triggered my curiosity and I couldn’t wait to complete the part 1 ASAP. To my surprise I’ve finished reading in 2 days. I felt repeated words and sentences could be neglected to enhance the reading flow. Finally the titles of each and every chapter were 100% aptly ended with the same at the end of all the chapters after the wonderful narration. I believe that only a few could have this type of writing style.
சாண்டில்யன் அவர்களுக்கே உரிய தனித்திறமை... 70களில் இவருக்கு பெரும் வாசக பட்டாளம் இருந்ததில் ஆச்சரியமில்லை!!!
காரணம் இவர் கதாநாயகர்களின் காதல் காம விளையாட்டுகள்தாம்..
I am fond of this author’s brilliance in adding his imagination to the actual historical world. I started this book with the intention to enjoy that experience. I was amazed at his ability to create a story of his own with all the historical facts. Negatives I felt are the repeated jargons of repeated narratives for the same character and the unwanted stresses over religious thoughts.
